{ Not Just About the Porch }

So, we all know how I feel about the Front Porch.
I feel that it is an extension of the rest of the house, and think of it as another room of a home.
Simple houses look like homes when the have a front porch out front.
However, there are other accessories to the front of the house that I believe can make it more "homey" as well.
Now,the other day I received my House Beautiful Magazine, and instead of cleaning my house like I should, I sat outside on my porch in my patio chair and read the magazine.
(Believe me, the dishes and laundry didn't go anywhere while I was sitting there.....unfortunately:)
Inspiration struck.
I have always loved brightly colored front doors, and the magazine spoke about colors that you could paint your front door.
So, I have collected a few inspiring photos for you.
Here are a few paint samples that I think would be lovely colors on a front door

If you are not into sea blue or tulip red how about a sweet yellow or a calming green?

Here are some door pics

My all time favorite doors have to be a Tulip Red door and a French Blue (like the following)

So, when was the last time you said to someone "I just adore my front porch light"

Um, never, right?

But, why shouldnt we?

Its right there on the front of our house, welcoming guests and waiting for us when we arrive home after dark.

So, shouldnt it also be wonderful?

Here are a few really nice ones.

I hope I got your mental juices flowing.

Do you have a unique front door, or something fun about the front of your house that welcomes your guests as they come in?

Have a great day!

  1. I'm liking the red door and the first light. Wouldn't they both be great on a front door area. How are you liking this lack of rain weather we are having. Awesome! Loving all the windows open. Here's hoping you have a great weekend dear!

  2. Great post. I just love porches too and have enjoyed them in several homes. My house now does not have a porch in front, but we do enjoy one in the back. My front door is a gorgeous tuscan red and really makes the front inviting, even though you have to walk through to the back porch. LOL
I so enjoyed your blog and now a happy follower too.
    Have a great weekend.

  4. Nice colors - I love the red. But I also love a black front door. All the lights are great, but I think I like the last one best. Our door is the natural wood color it is and it has a big glass panel in the middle. I'd like to paint it yellow or black, but husby ain't going for it. Do you have free rein to paint your own door!? If so, how awesome. I look forward to seeing what you do. :o)

  5. I have always like French Blue and a door in that color would be sweet. The first lamp would be perfect.
    Love your ideas.
    Love you,

  6. When we had our house up for sale in CA (grey house), the realtor suggested that we paint the front door red. It looked great! And, obviously, the house sold!
Yeah, those dishes never seem to go away by themselves, do they?
I've always wanted a house with a wrap around porch. Even if it's a manufactured home, my next one will have one!!!

  8. My front porch is very typical of New England. Not only is it a place to hang out and watch cars go by, but it's also a play place and storage area. So we have an a/c unit waiting for warm weather, a grill, a box of toys, kiddie slide, a four wheeler, chairs...you get the picture. Maybe not pretty, but definitely used well :-) It also serves as a great "leaping off" point for the youngest grandson, and in the winter when the plow has built a snowbank on the end, my son and I use it as a sled jump.

  10. I am really wanting an old-fashioned screen door to slap shut when my kids run in and out.

Right now, on my porch, I have my old metal furniture and my new flowers!

I really love the colors on the front doors. we are going to have to repaint our house so I need the inspiration!

  11. Hi friend, sorry life has been so crazy busy i havent visited in a bit. I just got caught up on your posts and saw that you too where hit with these spring storms, they have been something this season, gosh. I totally agree with you and love bright colored front doors. I really like the rustic feel so the turqouise is a fave. Glad you found some time to sit a bit and enjoy your porch, i know you are busy these days to. hugs

  12. I love porches and neat front doors too. I'd really like to have a nice, big porch attached to a nicely, re-modeled turn-of-the-century home; instead I basically have a cement slab in the front of a 1980s ranch house. I do have a cute little bistro table out there, at least, and my front door is magenta.
