Dreamy Kitchens

Dear Ones,

It certainly has been awhile since I have done a Kitchen Post.

As you can see by all the pics, that it wasn't because I didn't have kitchens on my mind, I simply was just saving up for a humdinger of a post:)

(LOVE the sink on this one!)

(I wonder if the springs are really springy?? I can see kids eating their breakfast cereal bouncing about happily,to the Mothers' dismay!)

I like this one, so very pretty, a touch of elegance with classic country.

A bright little Seaside Country Kitchen

I have featured the fridge and stove of this very kitchen before on this blog, but until recently had not found the island, I love it! I adore how they used mismatched chairs.

Now, I am not sure if you have noticed from some of the pictures yet, what my latest kitchen delight is...... If you guessed a Chandelier you are right.

I just love a Chic Chandelier in the kitchen (in fact I am also loving them in bedrooms and even on the bathroom....but that's a post for another day;)

A very nice Modern Country style Kitchen.

A French Style Country Kitchen

So, what do you say,ladies....what do you think of making dinner by the light of a chandelier?

Happy Memorial Day

A Big Thank You to all of those that have served for Country.

The sacrifices you have made for us, will never be forgotten.

Making Your Grandma Proud

Hello, Y'all!
Today's post would make your Granny proud.
We have an old- fashioned recipe, and a recent purchase, plus, a flower that all Granny's love.
The recipe is for frosting.
I have never been a powdered sugar frosting gal.
I like something a little less sweet and firmer.
Here is the perfect recipe (also husband tested and approved:)

Old-Fashioned Brown Sugar Frosting

1 cup milk
5 tablespoons flour
1 cup butter,softened
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt

Whisk together flour and milk in a saucepan on medium till creamy(Do NOT walk away, whisk the whole time, it wont take long)
Set aside to cool.
Meanwhile, in a mixer with a beater attachment, beat together butter and brown sugar, till sugar granules start to break up.
Add vanilla and salt and beat again.
Next, step is to take cooled(to room temp) milk/flour mixture and add to bowl with butter/sugar mixture.
Now,turn your beater on high and beat the dickens out of it.
Continue to beat for about 5 minutes, till it is fluffy and creamy.
Spread on cake or cupcakes, then take over to Grandmas house:)

There is nothing finer then a dirty, hardworking man, coming through your door literally loaded down with Lilacs.
Manly came home last night with a ton of lilacs off the bushes at the old farm place.
I immediately ran around and filled up vases and spread them out over the whole house.
(after giving Manly a little peck on the cheek;)

Some of the Lilacs along with a gorgeous plate that a wonderful friend gave me as a gift
(you know who you are;)

No one can resist stopping to the smell the lilacs.....

This is one of our recent auction purchases.
It is a Stromberg-Carlson Autograph from 1947.
Yes, it does still work.
However, when the radio portion is turned on there is a thumping noise.
Does anyone know how to work on one of these old radios?
Check Spelling

Hope you all have a great weekend!

{ Not Just About the Porch }

So, we all know how I feel about the Front Porch.
I feel that it is an extension of the rest of the house, and think of it as another room of a home.
Simple houses look like homes when the have a front porch out front.
However, there are other accessories to the front of the house that I believe can make it more "homey" as well.
Now,the other day I received my House Beautiful Magazine, and instead of cleaning my house like I should, I sat outside on my porch in my patio chair and read the magazine.
(Believe me, the dishes and laundry didn't go anywhere while I was sitting there.....unfortunately:)
Inspiration struck.
I have always loved brightly colored front doors, and the magazine spoke about colors that you could paint your front door.
So, I have collected a few inspiring photos for you.
Here are a few paint samples that I think would be lovely colors on a front door

If you are not into sea blue or tulip red how about a sweet yellow or a calming green?

Here are some door pics

My all time favorite doors have to be a Tulip Red door and a French Blue (like the following)

So, when was the last time you said to someone "I just adore my front porch light"

Um, never, right?

But, why shouldnt we?

Its right there on the front of our house, welcoming guests and waiting for us when we arrive home after dark.

So, shouldnt it also be wonderful?

Here are a few really nice ones.

I hope I got your mental juices flowing.

Do you have a unique front door, or something fun about the front of your house that welcomes your guests as they come in?

Have a great day!

A Storm on the Horizon

We get lots of storms here.

Sometimes, like this one, they are a couple different storms coming from different directions.

Sometimes they are bad.

Sometimes, they just hang around and grumble.

Sometimes they get really close and then move around.

As I type this, the pictures I just took are proving to be not as interesting as what I see currently out my window....

I had to add this one, so you all know how much trouble I went through to take these pics for you.

I had to hold my hat with one hand(because of the wind) and the camera with the other

Boy, I must love you all ;)

In case the storm pics frightened you, here is a picture of a pretty little marigold.

I raised these from seeds.

And If I don't run out and bring them in, they will be pounded by hail.

Hope your weekend is a exciting one!

~A Few of My Favorite Things~

Dear Bloggy Friends,

I have deep blog guilt.

You all have been on my mind as of late, I miss reading all your lovely blogs and also sharing my life with you.

But, alas, I am also a Farmers Wife.

And it is springtime here.

Things have been just plain crazy. But, as I said, You are never far from my mind.

I have been taking a bunch of pictures to share with you.

Considered this morning of just throwing them up here on my blog with minimal explanation,however....I cant find my camera cable ANYWHERE! (you know, the wirey cable thingy that attaches to the camera and hooks it to the computer so they can talk and magically transfer pictures from the camera to the computer....???yeah, that's missing)

So, plan B was to share a few of my favorite things with you all.

These are some things that I have been enjoying as of late, and are getting no kick-backs for telling you about them:)

First of all,my new favorite Facial Cream Moisturizer:

My skin gets a beating here, that's all there is to it, between the sun, wind and strange weather changes, its takes a heck of a moisturizer to give me a dewy look
This one does the trick:

My next item is my new favorite sock yarn:

Knit One Crochet Too line makes a simply scrumptious sock yarn that is easy to work with, machine washable and SO SOFT!

Also, comes in simply divine colors AND my local yarn store is now carrying it (Yah!)

My next favorite thing is actually Geraniums.

Now, I know that they are not anything "new"

But, some of the colors they have now are incredible!
I actually got a Purple Geranium for my M.I.L. for Mothers Day.

And I have three shades of pink.

Here are a couple others that certainly are not our Grandmothers Geraniums:

Well, Dear Ones,

I hope to find my cable thingy very soon, and also I am hoping to have a few moments to again this week sometime(wait...is it really already Wednesday!!...) to write some more in my blog and to catch up on some good ol' blog readin'

Have a Great Day!

~Happy Mother's Day~

To all you wonderful Mothers out there, I hope you have a lovely day!

One day isn't enough to express all that you do each day for us.

You are some of the most special people on earth.

And to my own Mother:

I love you,Mumsy!
You are a wonderful lady.

Thank you for all that you do.

Here is a hand-picked bouquet for all you Mothers

(and I snuck in a porch picture too;)
